Hello fellows, I know this thread is couple years old already, but thought it would be a fine place to ask my question. I seen a Cat ripper and looked at it for a minute but then had to get on with other more pressing things.. Got home and see it looks like an #18 or #28 ripper, but they look almost identical... So, how can you tell which is which from a distance? They both look heavy and long.
Next question would be , what is a ripper like this worth? This ripper has only one tooth left and the right holder for the pin to go through the tooth attachment has been torched off and looks like it got used pretty hard and has some welding done on it and rusty and lichen growing all over it with leaves covering it. Steel wheels and has a bump in the back, but not a hitch as sticking out as in picture above shows. There is what appears to be an angled slot on top for pinning something at an angle. Did not get close to see if it went all the way through. Took a quick look to see if I could find the ID plate, but didn't see it. so where is that located at? TIA

Look for the s/n plate on the top of the main body within the wheel frame.
A little tough to spot the differences from a distance.
The #18 has 3 x 9 shanks, the #28 has 3 x 10.
Wheel gauge on the #18 is 58", the #28 is 62"
#18 is 9,125 lbs, the #28 is 13,100.
I believe just the #28 has the big lug on the rear.
