Hey Bernie,

It's inside a building, can be Ac or Dc. It will be in a wet environment, wet floors, sprinklers running around the area.

Pops, all my tong trucks have winches on them. The worm gear style are very slow but the płanitary style will really haul a$$ but are difficult for letting it down an inch or two. But we prefer the płanitary since were in the getter done mode.

Northern tool sells some name brand winches in the smaller sizes, online if you don't have a local store.

Hi Glen,
That's a pretty fast line speed for a winch. The 1,000 lb pull would work using a Warn 8,0000 lb winch. My 25 year old one has a no load speed of 130 ft per minute and 12 ft at 8,0000 lbs. It should be in the ballpark for that lighter pull. Bad thing is that it is 12 volt. The heavier pull could be easily accomplished at that speed with a smaller logging winch. You would have to put a power unit on it unless you want to add an old log skidder to your collection. The Gearmatic 8 and 9s were used on a bunch of smaller machines and parts are still available out of Broken Bow, OK for them. Maybe an old double drum dragline hoist works could be modified to work. Is this for the worm beds? I have been wondering how that adventure is coming along.
Good luck and Merry Christmas,
Roger

Yeah, Roger, that is what I was thinking too. Something to do with the worm change out. That is quite a setup Glen has put together.

Glen- I've seen small tugger winches powered by small gas engines that roofers used to use to hoist roofing materials. As I remember, the line speeds seemed pretty fast.

Another idea might be to build a cathead powered by gasoline or electric that you could take a few wraps of 1-inch line around and move a lot of weight. It could be clamped on at the end of the bed or frame. By using snatch blocks, you could re-direct the pull anywhere you want.

Of course there are also air tuggers used by ironworkers.

Jan - thnking out loud.

Pops, I have a couple extra electric winches that I'll trade you for a 5LB hammer.

Hey Gang,

I keep researching specs. I think I may go to hydraulic winches. The specs on hydraulic winches seem to be more in line with the speed and power that I'm looking for. I'll keep you posted.. Hey Oilslick, You feel like Santa?

This is the same winch I have on my tong trucks. Most drilling rigs use the same style of winch too. Fast, strong brake, weather proof.

For some security reason I can't post a link. Type in Pull Master PL5 and it will pop up.
