Hello all I just joined. I have a D13000 installed in a boat about 1940. I have had no luck deciphering the serial number or finding a service manual through the legendary equipment CAT web page. I was wondering if you had any ideas, and if anyone else on here has an old marine CAT. The serial number is 9J7515.

She was installed by the Finning Tractor & Equipment company in Vancouver BC, rated at 100HP at 900 rpm. She still looks and sounds great, and as I move forward with the boat restoration I want to make sure the old girl has many years of life ahead of her. So I have a lot to learn.

Thank you for any replies.

Chris

Thank you Daron. I wonder if they still have the boat. I will try to contact them. A lot of commercial fishing boats here have WWII or pre-war Twin Disc drives and they seem to find parts.

That's an oldie. I don't have the exact date but shows 9J1 started 1937, ended production 8/14/39.
Same era as the 1Hxxxx RD8/D8 tractor

I have a 1941 serviceman's reference manual for "Caterpillar Diesel Engines", doesn't say what models but it does cover 5-3/4" bore and seems like it would apply to your engine.

cjramply,
You mentioned taping into the Cat Legendary Literature List. I have lost my access some time ago and have not been able regain it. What web address enabled you to get access?

I found the web page describing the catalogue on the CAT site, but there were no link to click. I called Caterpillar but the lady I talked to didn't seem to know what I was talking about.

This was the page - http://www.cat.com/en_US/support/maintenance/service-manuals/service-literature.html

It sounded like a great idea, hopefully they are just having a technical issue.

We got the engine running yesterday, put her in gear. She sure moves a lot of water with a 38" wheel.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
