My dad had a 1956 D-7 17A2851 cable model. It was in Long Island, NY when he sold it some 20 plus years ago.
At one time, he thought a fence contractor may have owned it and that it may have been on the eastern part
of Long Island. I would like to see if it is still around but have no idea which direction to search.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Send a message to dpendzic and JasonPayneCrawlers who are both out on LI and might have some info for you, including scrap yards and "abandoned" machines. By the way, Erik Christenbury has a serial number registry on the Chapter 12 site http://www.chriscomachinery.com/ACMOChapter12.htm (I hope that's ok Erik). Scroll down to Archive Information: and then Serial Number Registry and then by tractor model. I checked for this number and it's not listed so it's not currently known to the group.

Call surrounding Cat dealers, they can check if anyone has ordered parts for it if they gave the serial number. Could have been parted out or scrapped. There were two local machines I knew of that got scrapped because the owners were greedy and wanted a high price for them. One was a 3T with engine stuck but would have made an excellent parts tractor had very low hours, the other was a D9D with Hyster towing winch and cable straight blade in good condition, I am still sickened that they scrapped it!!!

My dad had a 17A17260, traded it in on a new D7E, I tried other states even and still couldn't find it.
