I went to look at the 1955 Caterpillar 8T 12 Road Grader today. The 1955 Caterpillar is a very sharp looking machine and it is in pretty good shape. It runs great and has lots of power. I took it for a drive and everything seemed to be good on it. It has power steering and it seemed fine. The tires are not all that bad. The only questionable one is the front left as it looks to be a tire that has been retreaded. The brakes don"t work on it. The owner was saying it might need a master cylinder. The carburetor on the pony motor leaks and the sediment bowl it broken so he just pull started it to get it going. he said that he used to use the pony motor until the carb started leaking and that was about a year ago. It has about 8000 hours on it. The owner has had it for 13 years and used it for terraces and local dirt work jobs. Check out the pictures and let me know what you think.

It would be $3500 for the machine otherwise it will be hauled into the scrap yard to be crused.
I think it would be a lot of fun to own and I would probably line up some dirt work locally to help get my money back out ot if.

What do you all think?

Thanks for reading!

buy it!

It's worth close to that as prepared scrap (approx 12 tons)
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Nice looking old beast. If you can get a few jobs lined up for it, by all means buy it!! They also do a pretty good job of plowing snow 😆

Looks good to me....was the serial number high enough to get the oil clutch?

Yep it was high enough to get the oil clutch. A nice little feature I might add.

Hi, Beatles.
That IS a neat-looking rig - and it looks like it has been set up to plow snow at some stage of its life. You might like to check and see if the current owner has the front blade for it, if you haven't done so already.

That power steering set-up looks to be from a later model machine, possibly a 70D. All the 8T's that I ever came across with power steering had the Rivinius system with the torque converter arrangement in the steering shaft just in front of the cab

If you have the $3 1/2K lying around just being lazy, I doubt you could go wrong, barring the unforeseen, of course. Even if you have to rustle it up from some dark hole, I think it would be worth it.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

I see the V-plow sitting in the background. I would get that thrown in on the deal. Good price it seems.

In my eyes it would be a good buy. Too bad I'm not closer to Nebraska to give you some competition for the purchase! Good luck.

I'd let them scrap it. We all know that China needs all the scrap metal they can get so they can manufacture a bunch of cheaply made crap and send it back to us.😆

Seriously, Jump on it!!!! Looks like a well cared for machine at a great price. And don't let them turn it into a Hyundai!! 👍👍
