I have a 1973 Cat 225 excavator (76U343) with considerable wear and looseness on all the joints from the boom to the bucket - about 11 pivot points in all. I am wondering what ballpark cost I should expect to have someone with portable line welding and boring equipment come to my site and re-bore each of the worn holes. Thanks for any help you can give me.

There's a fellow on the other website (ACME) who is in that business. His name is Warren Jones and he has a website. He is exactly what you need. http://www.jonesboring.com/

A great guy with a solid background in this field. I highly recommend him to anyone. 👍

The dealer I work for has the equipment and I think they charge about $600 a hole for large bore repairs. It takes a lot of time and it is still considerably cheaper than replacing parts. It is still a lot of money though.

It all starts with the setup of the boring shaft. You need to get someone who understands what he is doing or the results can be a disaster.

Rather than welding those bores up, you might consider having 'em bored and bushed. Preferably with some hardened bushings. That might be a bit cheaper. .just a thought.

I had your problem with an HITACHI. I live in Italy and I was searching for someone who could help me. The service was incredibly expensive!!! Even if in Italy there are maybe 3 or 4 manufacturers. I tried to make my own portable line boring machine but with no good results!! I decided to buy one after received several quotations and watching this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVdsSGJeDzA.
The machine is very very professional and I bought it for only €9,400 (boring and welding 42 mm - 400 mm). The website of this company is www.maucotools.it

Made my own line boring bar. It is driven by my Milwaukee Mag Base Drill through Sunnen Hone double universal joints. Boring bar is 1-1/2" diameter.
I haven't been welding up bores, just do over sized bushings or bushings with sleeves.
Unit is patterned (copied) from this version.

Wish I had of known about this years ago but I didnt even have the internet then so I just went to the local bloke $15000.00 later after getting a quoted $5000.00 before hand have never done it since

My only advice is disassemble it fully for the them to weld have it all in position for them to do when they get there the more you can do your self the cheaper it will be

The ruff buggers that did mine didnt even weld the holes up they just bored them out bigger and put oversize pins in and then they didnt get the center off the holes in the right spot so things had to cut a welded as pooftenth of an inch makes a big difference at 30 feet away

So who ever you get watch them like a hawk the blokes I used reckon they were busy at that time just drop it off at their yard and they will call when they are done
I waited and waited and made calls weeks later I finally get the ok to pick it up and then the big bill and then crook job never again

Good luck with it all and dont use Arena engineering in Townsville north Queensland Australia thieving so and so's

Depends on how good a job you want.

I have welded them up and used a die grinder to shape them back to size - takes ages but I am time rich in winter.

On the D2 5U I bored them out to a larger sized pin using a hole saw (Blu Mol brand) I think - which worked better and lasted longer with lubricant than the carbide hole saw they recommended which was 10x the price!

Otherwise u could get them line bored on site but imagine the cost:nono:
