I was just thinking of a funny story that happened on one of our jobs way back in the early 70's. My older brother Greg was running an underground job for us. It was in the days before rotary lasers, but we did have a pipe laser. Normaly we would place the laser in the pipe, but Greg got the idea to put the laser on the top of the 30" RCP, so a labor could crawl in the pipe and mud the joints a we went. We would shade the pipe to spring line to lock them in. Greg was getting upset. The labor was standing in front of the laser, making it impossible to check grade. Greg asked the labor to put his stuff down and come talk to him. Greg asked the man if he had worked around lasers much. The man replied that he had not. Greg then held his hand out so the red dot of the laser beam was in the middle of his palm, he then said,"don't ever let the beam touch you, look, I am as tough as the get but I can't even take the pain. Greg then pulled his hand away real fast, swearing that the laser burned him.LOL The labor's eye grew wide and swore he wouldn't get in the way of the beam. I was running a Cat 930 loader and my other brother was running a Cat 225. We all giggled at the labor doing the LIMBO as he crawled in and out of the pipe the rest of the day. Greg didn't have trouble the rest of the day checking grade😄 .
