You would have to first figure out how much cable is needed to be pulled for the travel you need from full depth to transport height. Then multiply that by 2 and that is the amount of travel the cylinder needs.

Multiply you say? Or maybe divide!

how big of a farm tractor do you have , that will take a big tractor
what about just renting a cat and then you have blade to dig out big roots

my ripper looks similar is your a letorneau mine has 3 shanks I was thinking the cylinder in front of frame maybe attatched to tounge using cable thru existing sheaves and the clyinders pulling cable to raise and lower ripper may be a winter project farm tractor is 150 horsepower so I don't feel like I will hurt the ripper thanks for the imput any memories of using one of these rippers would be nice to hear I have a 2u but no way to haul to the farms just thinking out loud

crazy thought how about a tulsa winch hydralic driven off farm tractor that's piulling ripper to raise and lower could you put a hydralic pump on drive shaft of tulsa winch have plenty of travel for cable and if the ccu has plenty of pull sure winch would have cant rember shank length was wondering about depth thanks boots

Hi, Folks.
If cable is to be used with a hydraulic ram, you need to MULTIPLY the length of lift movement by the number of strands of cable in the arrangement to get the ram stroke required.

Better, me thinks, to go for an arrangement like that shown in drujinin's photo.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

That D6 has the pumps turned up a little plus a tiny more RPM and it still would NOT pull all three shanks buried!
D8 would but there was a need to have the D6 here and the D8 someplace else.
Just saying if you bury those shanks, it will take some traction to pull them!

As far as thinking out loud, get an Electric Winch to mount on the Tongue to use the Tractor Batteries to power it?

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
