I have several issues to address with my D65R but the most challenging one might be replacing the bottom leaf spring, #1 which is completely broken. I was told by an old cat mechanic the engine would need to be lifted to replace. That doesn't sound like it'll be to easy if true. Can anyone verify or (hopefully) explain an easier method. Finding the correct part will be another obstacle too! I'm at the point where the next step is where I start spending hundreds of dollars. Might quit while I'm ahead and buy a different machine. Thanks everyone.

There’s a Servicemen’s Reference Book in the Tech Library. Not the best copy but it shows the procedure. See pic. Looks a straightforward process if you’ve got the tools.

Hi, Unstyled.
Lifting the engine is not a HYOOOOGE deal. A 5-ton hydraulic jack under the frame on side just behind the equaliser spring will do it. A couple of 10.tonners would be better.

Or, if your machine has a hydraulic blade, if might even be able to lift itself on the hydraulics to allow you to get some cribbing under the front. Before trying to lift it whichever way, make sure that the retainer spring under the equaliser spring is disconnected so that the engine can rise up and leave the main spring behind.

Please feel free to ask any more questions that may arise. I don't claim to have all the answers but there are some smarter people than me who hang around this board.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

I got to looking underneath it today, I see how this will work. Good to know it's not a next to impossible job. Thanks for the idea Deas Plant. When the time comes I'll switch it out when I can locate a spring. I bought the dozer sight unseen and found the busted spring when I got it home. For the price I bought it for, I knew there would be work and expense. Guess I'll continue on with the project. Thanks for offering to help with questions, issues, etc.,I truly appreciate it, you and others.

Hi, unstyled.
It makes it easier for people here on the board to help you if you include at least your approximate location in your profile. We then know in which area to best recommend parts sources for you and there may be members close to you who could/would be willing to help.

As it is at the moment, I sorta suspect that you are somewhere in North America and that, with a name like, "unstyled", you might be a bit ovva John Deere nut. There are new and used parts sources all over the world but I/we have NO idea about which resources to recommend for you 'coz I/we don't know your location.

Your move.

Good tip Deas Plant, I'll try to add my location. Yes, the "unstyled" comes from the JD tractors I collect. Good deduction!

Hi, unstyled.
The "unstyled" bit wasn't hard to 'figger' out. The term, "unstyled", is most commonly associated with many of the earlier JD tractors - don't hafta hang around vintage tractors very long to pick up on that one.

I purchased individual truck leaf springs for my D-4. I know it’s not as big as you R5 but just an option.

I'd possibly buy a leaf spring now if I ran across one, I'm going to need it at some point. Thanks for the tip Flathead.

For what it's worth, I've been trying to add my location in my profile, no luck. Computers and me don't get along real well.
