I upgraded the HO water pump when it was rebuild several years back. Now it's leaking coolant out the opening on the bottom of the pump. Please advise on how to fix the leak. Thanks

So far as I know, most pumps have that weep hole as an indicator that the seals are leaking. Cat might have a pump service kit with all the the gaskets, seals & what-not.

Admitting I am not a mechanic by nature and miss the obverse,I beat myself up with a leaking water pump in a D6.The problem was the injector per cup seals leaking gas into water jacket and pressurizing radiator and blowing coolant out weep whole on water pump. Just something to consider since you stated water pump is not that old.

I didn't reseal the pump before putting it on.

Do I remove the entire pump for repairs or split it in half on the tractor? Any tips would be good since I've never done it before. Thanks

Ray, thanks for your observation, I hadn't thought of that angle.

However, should not the pressure relief of the cooling system taken care of that problem?

Remove the pump assembly (unbolt at the timing gear case) and get it on the bench. Tear it down for complete check. Mechanical seal is on the back side of the impeller accessed from one side, bearings and oil seal accessed from the other side. Process is well described in the D13000 Servicemen's reference book. I'm surprised you may not have one after all the work you did.

OM, yes my service handbook covers the later style water pump but my parts book only goes to 13,000 so it doesn't cover it. Would you happen to have a parts book scan for a 23,000 D82U water pump so I can order parts?

Mikeee, if you don't feel like tackling the pump, give a call to the parts guy at Henry Leasing on Gilmour street. I had him put a kit in a pump off an industrial engine for me, and he did a great job, and only was down a couple of days.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
