Dry Ice blasting is the best system that I have seen. You dont get any grit at all, only whatever comes off of the material. It wont do deep rust, but what I watched at my old job was wonderful. The problem is that it is an industrial process that does not downsize to small shops or home shops. There may be large shops that do ice blasting, but I have not been able to locate one. Soda Blasting is another process with less grit issues, but sure is messy.

They certainly work there is one near me . Not a commercial operation. Taking a bit of learning and dangerous . Eye protection is very important. Lens has to be perfcty clean. They have set up an extra compressor to try and keep debris away from the lens.

you can get portable dry ice blasters but its expensive equipment.

a method that works well for rust removal is electrolysis but it is a slow process.

soda blasting works well too.

instead of perfection some times we just have to accept practicality
