Just wondering if anyone has had to deal with the shaft seal on a Laplant Choate front mount D4 hyd. pump? Mine is leaking while tractor is parked😮 about a tank or so in 3 months! Is there an updated seal for the pump? Thinking of putting a valve on the intake line near the pump to keep tank from draining. Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks, quinq

Mike in Gardenerville NV is the expert on that pump. It is a 5 piece seal but if you took it apart and mesured the hole where the seal seat is and shaft size I'm sure any good bearing house could get you new style seal for it, thats what we do for the old waterpumps with old type seal. I have a book on it if you need info.

I have had good luck replacing the malt able piece spring loaded seals in older low pressure hydraulic pumps with modern lip seals.Have a hydreco I am going to do this to on a D6 9u with a cat bulldozer blade.

Ray54, I assume meas. OD&ID and order seal ?? Seems to me that an ordinary lip seal wouldn't withstand pump housing pressure. Is there some special type I should be looking for??

The first one I did I filled the whole space where the spring loaded seal had been (it took about four or five seals). This lasted as long as I owned the tractor. The last one I fixed the hydrolic supply house had special lip seals made for hydrolic pumps that take higher pressure but didn't seem to have as many sizes and didn't have one to fit my pump so I used one regular lipped seal. this produced probably 1,200 pounds of pressure in my pump and so far no leaks. Good luck to ya.
