Finally got some real seat time on my D4 7U that I purchased last year. I finished mounting on a winch last weekend and wanted to run it awhile before taking the winch back off to fix a leak I found. I'm not very experienced running a blade but I've ran misc equipment and farted around piling brush and pulling disc but this is my first sizable project on a dozer. The winch did help take some of the seesaw out of the machine which was what I was hoping for. The blade has tons of slop in it and needs most of the bushings repaired but I was pretty pleased with it.

Here's a video I made of the work I was doing;

After this project and the winch leak is fixed, I have a grill guard, belly pan, a D4D canopy and a little better set of rails I'll install.

I found the bell crank shafts worn also where it went thru the outer bushing---actually there was no evidence of the old outer bushings--just the grease seal.
BTW nice job of grading that bank off!! 👍👍

Thanks! Below are a couple pictures to give you an idea of the wear on that blade. Thankfully it appears this blade was put on more recently, the rest of the cat is no where near as worn out;

Oh ok--that is an angle blade?--it certainly has a lot of play at those points!! I have a 4S blade so a bit more stable

Yup, angle. And I still can't figure out how the pin/bolt in that first picture disassembles. Obviously the nut comes off but that wouldn't give enough clearance to be disassembled I don't think. i'm wondering if it's pressed in. I might just have to cut the tab off, rebuild top and bottom and the shaft and weld the tab back on. I'll also have to rebuild most of the "tilting" teeth. It's going to be a lot of welding;

Looks like the pony spring under the main spring might be missing the way that front end bounces around.

Looks to be all there;

That ground is extremely hard as well, if it wasn't for being spring and having some moisture in the ground the D4 would be glancing off of it. We initially dug some of that bank out a couple weeks ago with the backhoe on our Case 580 Super E and it was tough going.

Rome, I noticed the engine lurching up a few times too under load and it didn't seem normal.

I think with the weight of the winch on the back and no larger Cat hyd unit on the front with a grill plus no crankcase guard will make it light in the front thus making it bounce more.

I have the exact same D4 amazing what you can do with it.
I find that it is better to run at high idle all the time when operating rather than lugging the engine at lower revs.
The wear in your blade is normal for a machine that age.
