last spring I bought a cat 12 with a stuck engine from sitting. It also had antifreeze in the oil. pulled off the heads, 3 sleeves and the valves from those sleeves were in horrid shape. I do not know if I can fix this. I just came across another 12. Newer, more wore out. but it apparently runs. Figure maybe if it works to get the jobs I need done done it might be worth buying then see about the other one later. If nothing else the first one was maintained better so it would be good for parts.

This newer one is SN: 3U4549 I know nothing about this one either. Manifolds are on either side this time so may be 318? Horse power? year? oil clutch? The guys I'm buying it from don't seem to know anything either. They bought it at an auction and were gonna ship it to Africa until they found out the cost. They said it was running and driving when they bought it. They said they got it running and tried to move it and it stalled. Not surprised though cause they sent me a video of when they got it "RUNNING" and only the pony was fired up. I don't think they knew how to fire up the main. why do ya want 4 cylinders of diesel when you got 2 gas right??? Any specs you folks could give me on this unit would be appreciated. Thanks!

operations and service manual for what? I'm not even sure this is a 12 now. Thought maybe it was a D318 engine but the engine in this is a four cylinder. I have no clue what the engine is and searching the serial number online is giving me nothing. Other than the fact it's orange say's cat has a grader blade I got no clue. For instance I found the original auction posting for this grader . this is all it says:

Features and Specifications
Other Description::
CAT Engine
Diesel
Blade Length: 13'10''
2 Cyl Gas Starting Engine
All Mechanical

That's all I've been able to find out thus far.

Wow thanks! I've been searching everything I could think of high and low to try and find out what in the hell this was. Nothing was making sense. Any idea what the Hp rating was for this grader? Now I gotta figure out what the differences are between the 12 and the 112. Had to be some kind of difference that they were manufacturing 12 and 112s at the same time. or am I wrong about that and folks are just referring to the 112s as 12s also?

Ah ha 75 horse power instead of 100. So pretty comparable to the 1940s era 12 I have already.

Well, now that you know what your dealing with I would at least try and get an operator manual, you’ll be surprised how much it will help you. Peanut butter and reading material- both staples around here

Hi, Pushin daisies.
Basically, a Cat 12 frame with a 4-cylinder engine instead of a 6-banger.

This post may help a little:

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Well now that I know what I'm dealing with at least I have an idea of what manuals I'll have to buy after I actually decide whether or not to purchase the grader. I doubt that many people buy manuals for equipment they don't own and may not own when they have no clue what the item to be purchased is.

See I'm not cheap. It's like this! personally I have no use for this grader. My son needs a driveway and so does my mother. I also help friends out. I have been on a fixed pension income of 600 dollars a month for 10 years fighting Multiple Myeloma. I have zero funds to piss around with. I need a working grader cheap. If it has a few small issues I can still weld and I can still turn wrenches. Not all day anymore but I can still get by. Neither wasting time or money are luxuries I enjoy. I have already wasted a year and 2000 dollars and am no farther ahead. If I had already spent as much time building a road as I have spent trying to get my hands on a operational grader for what I can afford they'd all have interstates built. Once I have something that works I'll buy manuals to keep it working.

Thanks I will certainly give it a read. Unfortunately this 112 is in a bit rough shape. The gear bar to move the carriage to the side is worn to hell even some broken kogs. it's also missing a few original parts that were poorly re-manufactured. Best case is if it was another 12 so it's all the same as the one I have. But beggars can't be choosers. If it's mostly the same I can make something work as long as the main runs and the transmission and clutch are decent. All I know for a fact right now is the pony was running last summer. -30 C here last night but we got some nicer weather coming. Maybe i'll drive out there to see if I can get it running. Then I guess if I get this 112 I'll have to strip and sell off the still good engine parts off the 12 before they get wrecked by time also.
