I hope I didnt get in over my head. We could use a little dozer around here but this thing is big. I bought it because it was close by and cheap. The left drive sprocket slipped on the track and rounded it off. They torched off the top section of the track and bought another track. they have it laying out in front of the dozer to move it onto. It runs and moves. Neither of us knew what we were doing at the controls so we just moved stuff until we got her to move.

So... until you get operating it all figured out, don't point it at your house!

Seriously, looks like a nice machine once the track is repaired/replaced. Is the drive sprocket not damaged? Does the cable blade work?

D7N is the model of the Hyster towing winch on the back. That's a D7 3T series tractor. 1954 Year.

Cable blade seems to work good. It rounded the tips on the sprocket. I'm wondering if I can build them back up with a welder or if I will need to weld in another sprocket. It looks to me like there is an adapter plate on the starter so I am assuming it was converted to electric start.

Thanks. I'm assuming you got that from the serial number?

Hi frylakedave, I have the books you need for your tractor for sale. I am sending you a PM with my contact info. What you don't know CAN be expensive. Clockwise from the upper left: Parts Book for the tractor, Service Information for the oil clutch, Operation and Maintenance Instructions for the tractor and the Parts Book for the bulldozer blade.
Thanks,
Craig

Got the track wrapped on the D7 today. It is one link too long I think. What is the preferred method of removing track pins? What size bolts do I need to bolt the track together? Last question is unrelated, how are the winch controls supposed to work?
Thanks

Should be 36 link for small front idler and 37 link for large idler.
Can be either 5/8" or 3/4" track pad bolting. Get the part number of the links.
What are you referring to as bolts to put it back together. These tracks are not normally available with bolt together master links. Sprocket/s are worn out if they have been slipping. Rest of the undercarriage is probably not good either.

You need to get yourself some manuals and study up on the tractor.

You can study up on the D7N winch here....

as for the sprocket they can be built back up with weld--you can also buy sprocket rims and weld them on by cutting the spokes on the old rim. weld on cups for the teeth are also available that can be welded in but usually only good for a play machine

When I bought this tractor they were in the middle of changing tracks. The owner passed away and I purchased it. They had torched the top part of the track off and laid the replacement track out in front of the machine. I pulled the machine across onto the replacement and wrapped it around only to figure out it is at least one link too long. It might not even be the correct pitch. I have no idea where they got the replacement track or what it came off of. Probably not the correct track for the machine.
