Hi, I'm new here. I just bought a D4D dozer a couple weeks ago and would like some info on it. I have no idea what year it is but the serial is 83J1594, series D. I'd like to know the h.p. and year. I'm wanting to order a service manual for it, where is the cheapest place to get one? I'm gonna change the oil and filter very soon so i need to know how many gallons of oil it holds also. Then I'm gonna change the tranny fluid and rear end dope. My cousin owns and works on dozers etc and he said I should change everything so I know it's all fresh. He swears by putting dura lube in engines, so what is the opinions on that? Any info is much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi KeveW, welcome to the forum. Your machine is a 1971 build, and if it's still original would have a D330c engine rated @ 65h.p. (shortly after your serial number the h.p.was increased to 75 so yours may well be set to that by now).

Ebay can be a good source for a service manual.

The engine holds about 5 gallons of oil.

Thanks for the info Rusted!! I'm gonna check out ebay and see if I can find a manual. Will they have a serial number range on the manual? Thanks again.

Anybody know the approximate weight of my dozer? It doesn't have a six way blade.

Thanks Bruce Oz! That's gonna help me a lot on the fluid changing. Good to see that I can clean/change filters externally. I figured the tranny filters would be internal like on a car. I'm definitely gonna get on that asap. Thanks again. Much appreciated. Any way I can find online manuals like that for my specific year range? Rusted said mine is a '71 but I assume the '74 in the file on that page is pretty much the same. Here are a few pics of the dozer. I got a really good deal on it I think. My cousin went and tested it out for me, the engine was rebuilt 4 years ago and the undercarriage was redone. the pins have absolutely no visible wear and are perfectly round. I paid $4,000 for it. He said it was a good deal and was gonna buy it if I didn't. I'm pretty proud of the purchase so far 😊 Still learning to run it. I've got a long way to go, when I cut ground it's pretty rough looking. lol I'll get there though with experience. Exciting stuff!
