is this the right gauge and will I have to do any modification to it? When I called Cat, they said the one they have will require a modification kit. Serial number 9476

edb has replied with data on various threads asking this same question.
If you have time to do a search (in upper right corner) you may get a quicker answer.
Until OM or edb chime in.

helpful in determining which parts you need and then cross reference against superseded numbers.

That one does not look like what I have on my D2. Mine has a flange for 4 screws to mount it. Check with Cat on part number 6B6158, I think it might be updated to a new number.

If you order from CAT you wil probably get one that looks like that. The face design has likely changed several times over the years, but the major change was a downsize to a standard 2" diameter gauge with a small bracket held by 2 studs and nuts on the back.

If you order from CAT, unless you stop them from sending it, you will get a ring to go from the old large diameter gauge to the 2" as well as 4 screws and I believe lockwasher for the screws. This is in spite of the fact that the old style gauges haven't been produced or sold by CAT for 30 or 40 years and almost all have long ago been retrofitted with the new gauges and the adapter rings.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Hi Team,
CCJ has given the data you need to mount this gauge to the old hole in the dash.
Gauge is likely not the latest but is the correct upgrade for the older large Diameter gauges.
The data below is newly found in my "paperwork to be gone thru" pile.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
