I'm looking for a scraper to pull behind my old 9u. I have found an old LaPlant Choate close to home that is in really good shape. I don't think it's really moved much dirt in it lifetime. It's a c106 model. Anyone know what year it would be around and how many yards of dirt it would hail? What's one worth?

Is the la Plant a cable model ? Or hydraulic ? 4 wheel or 2 wheel ?
I borrowed a D7 and a cable scraper from oil slick ( for a small fee) and moved about 1,000 yards of dirt with it, 10 yards at a time. Surprisingly versitile and handy implement to have around. So much so I bought the scraper. The D7 was probably a perfect match for the scraper I have, it never strained ( ok rarely) even when loaded and would pull the loaded scraper up a good incline in 2nd gear.

Fast forward, I bought a D6 with a CCU on back to pull the scraper. I know it will pull it, probably not as well as the D7 but so what if I can only load it 70% on each pass ?

I don't have any info on a C-106 but here is a C-108. They will be similar. Built in the 40's and 50's. As far as I know they were good units. Can't help you with the price but I doubt it would exceed 3-5K$.

Hi, TOGNOT.
I always thought that scraper was a little small for that D7 anyway. With a smaller tractor - a D6 - you just need to pay a little more attention to keeping the dirt moving in the bowl while loading, even if you lighten your cut a little as you get closer to full. It takes fair bit more power and traction to get dirt moving again in the bowl if it has stopped, especially at near full, than it does to keep it moving during the full load cycle.

There was a thread some 3 or 4 years ago in which 7UPuller and I shared some insight into getting good loads in drawn scrapers. Depending on the weather here, I might get to find it later today.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

It's a cable scraper and it is 4 wheel. It's for sale for a good price so I think I will go ahead and get it.

Hi, Tydavis.
After reading the specs that Old magnet posted, I suspect that you would be in the right class with the C106 matched to a 8U or 9U D6.

Hi, TOGNOT and Tydavis.
Here is a link to one thread with some of the 'technicalities' of loading a scraper - Post 17:

Haven't found the one I really wanted yet with 7UPuller posting as well.

TOGNOT,

For once I agree with Deas 😊, that your D6 will be a fine match for Oil Slick's old scraper. It was undersize for the D7 which just played with it. I got to spend several hours on the D7 scraper combo and that is the basis for my opinion.

Tydavis,

Again, I think the C-106 will match up with your D6 even though I am not familiar with that model and like Deas, going by the posted info it should be fine.

Hi JanM.
AHA! Progress at last. It seems that you may be getting a LITTLE smarter in your 'fossilage', starting to agree with me. LOL.
