Did you remove the text from the post Neil? I pressed thank you (thumbs up) and the text disappeared to only have your 2 pictures
I didn't remove it - it just disappeared so I've sent an email to Support describing the issue, so hopefully they'll take a look Monday. The text was that I showed up today, one of only three as the rain scared everyone else off. Bob's 5U16613 is a direct electric start with the 3EE batteries which he said worked fine for him, which is good as that's what I've bought for my DE 5U. Plow is a JD 5x16 - he said the model is a 666. Pulled really nicely in the glacial silt but the tractor really barked with the straight pipe. Dual circuit hydraulic control, never had a blade on it. I have a video of it that I need to figure out how to upload.
nice looking match with the plow, should have been working pretty hard by the sounds of barking. did you take your machine?
Wow - pulling 5/16 with a D2? Must have been very light soil.
Pulling 5/14's with D7 or Sixty was normal here in Rice Ground Now you seldom if ever see a moldboard plow used and nearly all of the power is on rubber, a few challengers and lots of JD's, Case IH.
The soil is very light/sandy glacial silt. It can pour down on it and it drains freely - very little clay in it. My D2 is still up on blocks awaiting its new undercarriage. I took my lawnmower (JD 430) out with a 1x12 Brinly but didn't end up using it as it started hosing down. Going to use it at my buddy's place in a week or two once his ground dries out - it's a swamp at the moment - and then till it with the 48" mechanical tiller on the back of the lawnmower. Still keeping my eyes peeled for a trailing plow but likely a smaller one than Bob's - say a 4x14 or something that I can fit on my trailer. The ram on his plow was one with the depth stop and I think it is a higher pressure cylinder than is suited to the hydraulic control so that might have been part of the problem. Still, he said it did work perfectly the previous day so I'm not sure that theory stacks up
