For years I have had a Ten with an unidentified, hand operated blade. It looks period and didn't appear to be homemade. My father-in-law and I were cleaning in his shop and found an old book titled "The Dotted Line" (it looked like a cat manual and was issued june 1930. On the cover, it says "Issued by the Caterpillar Tractor Co. and intended solely for the help of those engaged in selling the products of the Caterpillar Tractor Co.- No. 38- Showing some of the many machines and implements (excepting agriculture) produced by other manufacturers for use with various sizes of "Caterpillar" track type tractors".
At some point, the book had gotten damp and many of the pages were stuck together. After many hours, I separated all of the pages and looked up "snow plows" in the index of equipment. Turns out mine is "The Wausau Hand-Operated Reversible Blade, Combination Backfiller and Snow Plow" How exciting! It was manufactured by the Hi-Way Service Corporation Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
There is 241 pages of this sort of info with a photo and sales pitch description/specs. I hope to post some pics, when my wife helps me with the computer end of it! The book only seems to refer to the ten, fifteen, twenty, thirty, and sixty. Has any one else seen this book?

Hi JGGC74,

I noted with interest your article referring to the publication "The Dotted Line", yes it certainly was a Caterpillar Tractor Co's salesman's bible which contained a huge amount of valuable information to assist in selling.

In my very large "CAT" library I posess 3 copies of these most interesting publications - No 2 contains issues 13 to 24 incl, No 4 contains issues 34 to 41 incl and No 5 which contains issue No's 42 to 50 inclusive. All three are in almost mint condition with their dark green hard covers.

I have had these for many years now and they came with a box lot of books that I bought some years back, personally I don't know of anyone else who has any copies.

JGC, I have the 5 bound copies of the Dotted Line, issues 1-60. I know of several other collectors who also have these books in their libraries.

My set came with a set of the Caterpillar Magazines bound in 5 volumes as issues 1-60 and are in near perfect condition and at one time sat on the desk of Mr. Zumwalt (sp?0) the Cat dealer in northern California. I got them from his step grand son along with some other misc. Cat, Best and Holt literature and photographs.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
