Cat owners manual that I purchased does not have procedure for topping hydraulic oil. Do you raise the blade all way up or let blade lay flat on ground with engine off? Serial number 48A.

Found hydraulic oil in rear compartment after filling hydraulic tank to full mark with blade on ground and engine off. Put Cat to work and after completing task I saw the hydraulic oil in the compartment and outside right track. Is there a over flow or pop off In the hydraulic system?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

What is the s/n of the hydraulic system ( should be tag on tank).
Level should be established with cylinders extended. Fluid visible in sight glass or filler neck.
Pressure relief is internal in tank, seems you have something else going on if your getting hydraulic fluid in rear compartment? What do you mean by rear compartment?

If its the early square tank on the fender oil should be just seen in the bottom of the filler neck screen. Blade on ground engine idle. The later 143B 34H series long tank on fender has a oil gauge on the side.Like Mag mentioned.

Thank you old magnet and Rome k/g for responding. The rear compartment is what I assume is the final drive area which is below the hydraulic tank. Attached provides tank serial number, side view showing oil on side of dozer and last is rear shot referring to rear compartment.

Hi, Pecanman.
I would suggest that you have a leak from the hydraulic tank somewhere on the inner face of the tank where many of the pipes attach to the tank and the controls enter the tank or maybe the seal around the bottom plate is leaking. To the best of my knowledge, there isn't anything else that can cause that oil patch that your last photo shows.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
