Wanting to get some thoughts on products like Seafoam, Liquid Moly - these seem to be the best reviewed.
Machine had sat idle for quite some time before I bought it, and about four months while I sorted the starter system. Been a while since its done any hard work also. Fired it up last weekend and very smokey (white), clattery very lazy response to throttle input. Fuel was fresh. Not looking for a 'quick fix' in lieu of correct maintenance, just exploring all the options before I go pulling injectors etc as the windows of time I have to work on the machine are rather limited.

The unit itself is in quite good nick and was well looked after. Though the blade seems WAY to big and almost up ends the tractor, or at least to cantilevered.

a little ATF in the fuel will help with the new dry fuel that we have. but a good work out for her at operating temps is one of the best things for them. she needs to get up over the 180 range.

Work the snot out of it, then you will know about how much oil it burns as well as any misfire, slobbering etc.

A set of injectors would be around $120.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

ATF in fuel is someone's old idea. Never thought that transmission fluid was made to not burn. If you want a fix in a can try a super concentrated dose of dieselkleen gray bottle. Out board 2cycle oil. Not motor cycle oil but. OUTBOARD 2 cycle (tc-w3) oil is made to burn cold and keep things clean. I have taken old equipment that smoked and over time they run like new. Dieselkleen once. Outboard oil every time 200-1 mix. I got this info from a guy who actually tested atf against out board oil. There's picktures on the web somewhere if you look em up.

before you go down the list of all these magic potions, I was always led to believe white smoke means that some air is in the mix and this is even more the case if it ran fine the time before
Perhaps crack some injector lines for a few minutes on each injector and see if it improves before adding stuff to the fuel that isnt meant to be there

On a lot of Cats gear there is no return line to the tank and as such air can get trapped in the injector line end

Highly likely as the entire system was dry as I serviced the filter and did a lot of cranking after being caught out by the throttle detent.. I'll be pulling the injector housing cover just to be checking everything is moving as it should. As far as I can tell, the return line enters the low pressure side of the transfer pump. Makes it tricky to get all the air out, thats for sure.

There should be no return line on any U series tractor. Couple of drain/tell tale lines on left front corner of the block,.but these don't normally leak enough that someone would bother to route one back into the fuel supply to the lift pump.

Isn't there bleeders on the filter tower. Slobbering injectors will make smoke blueish gray. Could seem white. Until you actually see white smoke then you know it's air. Usually misses or runs off if it's getting air. Dirty injectors can run normal just smoke alittle. Smell rich like unburned fuel or just smoke black like over fueling. Iv seen diesel kleen help dirty injectors. Also seen out board oil tc3w run 200:1 over the long haul make a older engine run like new. But you have to work them. Engines aren't made to idle around. Work them hard enough to develop some heat. Let them idle alittle before you turn it off so those injector nozels can cool down before you turn it off. That way you don't burn some fuel in the injector tip because it's to hot. Hot injectors at shut down lead to carbon build up. Cold injectors never clean up and get carbon fouling also. Probably something you already know. I just see people try and baby a engine around and over time the engine doesn't like it.
