I'm putting my D318 engine back together after having the head off. The book says to set valve clearance (hot). I'm assuming that means after the engine has warmed up. But, what should I set it to initially (cold) until I have a chance to turn the engine over and warm it up?

Thanks

My D318 is in a 1953 DW10 . I set the valves at .010" cold. Ran the engine up to 170 degrees and set them again, hot, with the engine running at .010".
Hope that helps.

I would try 0.012" cold as an initial setting. It will be very close when it's hot. In my book, not worth going back through hot, but to each his own.

I set mine @ .012 cold and because I'm anal about stuff I checked when hot and they all were right at .010๐Ÿ‘
