Very nice Bob. I wish my blade was that nice also. Any functioning brakes on an old grader seems rare, but ones that work that nice definitely has to be an oddity. Very, very nice.
Thanks for sharing.
Very nice. Thanks for posting.
Very nice and rare at only 801 (64C) units built with pony start. Even rarer is the 78E version with direct electric start at 127 units built. Mute point but production is listed as 1959-60.
Wow, what a beauty Bob. Any chance you have some video of it in action?
I got see that grader in person it was the absolute star ⭐️ of the dirt pit! a beautiful machine
[QUOTE=Paso Bob;224159]A gentleman from Santa Maria, CA bought his Cat 14B grader to the BOTW show. It is the first 14B I have ever seen. After talking to him about it, they were only made for one year and that was 1958. He picked it up from a desert climate in the South East part of CA and said when he got it, it had hardly any paint left on it. It has an original 318 with a turbo. He was kind enough to allow me to spend a couple of hours on it and it is a solid and tight grader. The brakes would probably lock up if pushed hard enough, I'm envious and wish my 99E had stopping power like that. Here are a few pictures and you will note the details he added.
The show went really well. Saturday had a larger attendance than any previous show. Today there was some light rain showers earlier but the afternoon turned out nice.
[/QUOTe BOB,,, 99Es built for county road work, many had 4 wheel brakes. Finding the right ( 4 wheel application) master cylinder in the parts book is difficult, but is there under accessories I think. Using a 2 wheel master cylinder on 4 wheel brakes, and your pedal travel is at the floor.
There was a kit that bolted on they were more of a “normalizer” then a turbo. It does give her a fairly nice whistle. Mine has had the air cleaner tucked under the hood instead of sticking out the side.![]()
Beautiful job on this machine.
2 questions about it.
1. Would it have had a tan colored interior from new or is that an upgrade he made?
2. If i had to take a guess he must have a TopCon grade control system he runs on it as well, judging by the brackets welded to the mold board and the fancy black tubes on the back of the unit?
Thanks
Nate
