My Dad had told me of plowing sand with Caterpillars, but he never said where, but if could have been on, or near their farms along the Platte and Elkhorn Rivers in Eastern Nebraska.

Some more information about this unique plow. It was built by the Post brothers in their welding and blacksmith shop in 1934 and originally used to reclaim deep silt-deposit land alongside the Santa Ana River in the "Gospel Swamp" area of Orange County, CA, close to where I grew up. It was last used on a farm field in the late '50's. Now it is on permanent display. - Richard

Bottom pic reversed? top looks right, engine exhaust is on proper side, either right hand drives or the operators are just scooted over to right side of the sofa seat.

Hi, ROME/KG.
Wouldn't be the first time I have seen larger Cats converted to right hand seat for plowing. Somewhere, I have even seen photos of a D9E converted to right hand seat and drive for this purpose.

Just my 0.02.

fantastic stuff I wonder how much old footage there is

ROME the photo must not be reversed as it faced the same way when the news lady was looking at it maybe a different plow in the two photos either way imagine riding along in the furrow on the back of the board it would be some ride thats for sure wouldnt wanna be in the hole if something broke

What was the purpose of the little auxilairy gasoline engine on the plow?

The second man on the D7 seems to be controlling the trip to raise and lower the plow by the two lines in his hands, altho when the plow passes in front of the camera, it seems that you can hear the little engine running.

I suspect the engine is running a hydraulic pump to lift/lower the plow. Rope is likly connected to the valve handle. Pretty slick setup.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
