On the back of my D6 9U I've got a Hyster D6N skidding winch. While working on the pony motor and the gauges (see other thread if you want details), I decided to look into why it was dripping on the one side.

I opened the access panel for the brake. (For a break down see http://www.alliedsystems.com/pdf/Winch/Manuals/599190W.pdf) Out came about 3 quarts of sludge -- I'm guessing it was 90W or higher, suffused with grime and dirt. Here's the think, in reading the manual, it appears that the break should greased, but otherwise dry. It doesn't seem that it's a wet brake. Maybe I'm misreading the manual. I'm wondering if I don't have a leak from the transmission for the winch through the seal into the break compartment.

Does anybody have experience with one of these? Can somebody fill me in?

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
