Hello,
has anyone heard of hydraulic assist steering for old d8's. I have a 2u9920 d8 and it has what the dealer called a revenus hydraulic steering attachment on the steering clutch's, H e said the company went out of business is the 80's and parts are no longer available. I would appreciate and info. thanks farmerg99

Yes there was a power steering attachment on a few of them that I saw but don,t remember too much about them. Once in a great while a tractor would come into the dealer with it on but it,s been too long ago to even remember much about them.

I have not come across hydraulic assist but have fitted full hydraulic steering way back to D8s must be 50years ago,the hydraulic steering was made by some aftermarket company (Rivinius?) and came in kit form,a pump, control valve, the servo cylinders and plumbing, the OME steering levers and linkage were removed, the clutches could not be disengaged till the engine was running.

Here's a few pics of an old D8 with the Hyd. assist that was sitting on the side of the road. It would have been nice to pull the top steering clutch inspection covers to get a better look, but....

Here is the rest of the page that AJ posted.....part of patent drawings I got from?????.......appears to use a double acting hydraulic cylinder down there to do the work.

We had one on an old slide rail RD8 we had on the ranch years ago with a similar setup.

There were single acting cylinders the operated the clutches inside the bevel gear housing with spring return. There was a small two spool, two position hydraulic valve that that mounted on the dash as in the pictures.

Ours was powered by a priority flow divider on the hydraulic pump running off the front of the crank for the lift circuit, as there was a LeT CCU on the rear of the machine.

It's been at least 20 years since I had seen the tractor, sorry I don't have any pictures.

thanks for the pictures and such. I just finished rebuilding the steering clutch's on my d8. I rebuilt the power steering cylinders with seals from a local hyd. shop. i took it out of the shop tonight for a test drive, everything worked great, except it was-20f out and i couldn't wait to get it back in the shop.

Oz, why did Cat wait so long to put power assisted steering on the D8 when the D6 and D7 had it from a long ways back?
Thanks, D6 Bo
