After a winter of rebuilding and fixing up the old girl I thought I would give her a HP increase.

K&N filter as a pre-filter before the oil bath 👍 If you believe the advertising that should give me an extra 30% right? 😄

After cleaning all sludge out of the oil bath and flushing all that dirt out of the mesh I thought if I could stop even half that entering the old girl would last even longer. Clearing land pushing up burn piles stirs up a lot of dust/ash. Easier to wash the pre-filter than change out the oil.

What gets me is the guys who opt for the electronic ignition conversions on 23 HP tractors that "can gain as much as 10%". That's a whopping 2.3HP if you get the 10%. Or the guys that convert to high energy coils. If the system sparks at 10,000 volts with the old coil because of how they work that 45,000 volt coil is going to spark at 10,000 volts! They make it get that hotter spark you have to increase resistance.

"If you believe the advertising" is the key word there...I used to have a link to a study testing all types & brands of air filters, on my old computer, probably never find it again...but, the gist of it was, K&N pretty much came in last in almost every category, especially in efficiency at stopping dirt...overrated, overhyped.

I was just thinking if it increased the lifespan on the oil in the oil bath it would make it worthwhile.

plus it looks cool😄

There has to be some truth to the advertising right? 😕

Hey, if it works run it...nothing wrong with a prefilter. Should give the oil bath an easier life.
I did find a link to that test; kind of interesting.
