That's some good stuff right there, excellent content!!👍
WOW!
Nice, appears to be 16 pages of interesting info!
Thanks for Sharing!
I have that booklet plus some others. Drawbar set-ups going gone as the dodo bird.
thanks 4 posting.
Looking at this thread again and having time to reply reminds me of pulling "ganged" implements
When I was about 12 years old I got put on a 3T D7 pulling 3 Wheatland plows seeding grain.Curious if anyone has used them let alone heard of them. They were like a disc plow with seed boxes.
Pretty scary for a while until I got the hang of making the corners.
Later on I was put on same tractor pulling three Stockton Gang Plows plowing summer fallow.Same thing,a little scary making the corners. There was a knack to it for sure.
Later on the Wheatland Plows were retired and we used two drills behind a one way disc.
The Stockton Gangs were retired when we bought a 12 bottom White plow
I sure wish I had pictures of the Wheatland Plows and the Stockton Gangs to show how they were hooked up.Maybe some of you have pictures you can share.
I made a drawing of the Stockton Gangs hitch, would be same for Wheatland Plows
Picture of a single Stockton plow I took at Mickes Grove,Ca and a set of 1942 John Deere rod weeders we had.![]()
That is a neat piece to have! It shows how to build and dimensions. Even shows the principles of how draft on a tractor works to use the most of traction and power. Something most all companies have forgot now. With air drills and pull type scrapers, they all pull up on the draw bar, not down, very sad.
Back in the day when all the equipment was small and made the most use of them. My grand father has a picture of six binders behind a steam engine. 80 hp case. A guy on each one. Several pics pulling three, three bottom, plow packer drill assemblies. So much work and dirt compared to now.
Thanks for sharing that. I think that is the toughest part is finding the literature that went with old Caterpillar tractors.![]()
D7E 180 hp with 15 bottom plow. A 200 hp wheeled tractor could never pull that much! well maybe with the plow not in the ground, lol![]()
Rome, back in 1982 we had a wet fall.I was plowing with our D7E and 12 bottom plow.A good friend of ours was a salesman for Versatile. He wanted to sell us a 4 wheel drive so bad.He brought out a 350 or maybe a 375 HP tractor. We unhooked the Cat and hooked up the Versatile. He and I took off.Went fine until we hit the heavier ground and the tractor started spinning.Kept raising the plow until it was nearly all the way up.All that horsepower but could not put it to the ground.Needless to say we made a mess getting back to the home corner.Hooked back up to the Cat and went back to plowing.
Gary: I love those action photos. Dust churning and burnin’. I bet you got the plow nice and shiny. I haven’t run any of my 7s since the wet season set in. Can’t wait to play in the dirt! JM
Juiceman,my only regret is I didn't get more pictures of that era.Back then we didn't have cameras in our pockets like we do now
It was usually someone else taking the pictures and giving them to me![]()
