We are having a robust conversation in the BOD thread about the future of our Club and I suggested we should do a survey of members just to find out who we are, and what we really want from our Club going forward, for example I was shocked to learn many of our members are only in the Club so they can buy discounted toys, but surely they must be a minority, but I wonder how many of us actually own a old Cat, Holt or Best, or are we mostly operators and Dealer Mechanics who enjoy talking about old iron.

For ACMOC to grow and regain profitability it must decide where to spend it's limited financial resources to get the best return on the dollar, are toys still to be part of our future or will repro parts and the technical library I suggested a few years ago finally get legs and run, what do you folks think? My gut feeling is a sensible questionaire shouldn't be too hard to draw up, it can be confidential, no need to know location other than continent, I'm really curious to hear what others think our income sources should be, and how best to support our members, it sure would be great if it could be done online but I'm OK with paper too, a lot of our senior members don't use computers.

Possible questions are
(1) Do you own any antique crawlers?
(2) If yes, how many?
(3) If no, do you collect toys?
(4) Are you active in your local ACMOC Chapter, if not, why not?
(5) Do you think the annual membership fees are reasonable, too cheap, or too expensive?
(6) If the Club had to go to quarterly magazines to save money, would you support that?
(7) Do you think your membership is good value?
(😎 If annual subscriptions had to increase to keep the Club afloat, would you continue membership if the increase was $5, $10, $15 or $20 a year, please tick one box?
(9) How do you think ACMOC can better serve it's members?
(10) Do you use the ACMOC Bulletin Board?
(11) If yes, how often, daily, weekly, monthly, annually?
(12) If no, why not?
(13) If you are not a Financial Member of ACMOC, would you be prepared to help support the Bulletin Boards running costs with a $5, $10, $15 or $20 donation per year, please tick one.
(14) If you are saving old crawlers, do you think the ACMOC Club should produce parts to help you?
(15) Do you ever need technical support when working or operating a old machine, do you think the Club helps you?
(16) Do you think the Club could help you more, if so how?
(17) Do you vote in the ACMOC Board elections for Director every time, rarely, or never?
(1😎 If you answered rarely or never, why?
(19) Do you think Mike Meyer is a pain in the backside and should be booted from the Club?
(20) If you said no to question 19, please forward your mailing address to Mike so he can send you a $20 check, to the 2,799 members who say yes, for once I'm lost for words and not sure how to respond...πŸ˜†

I'm sure this questionaire could be printed on a sheet of A4 paper if a online option is too hard, so the cost would be minimal

I'm sure you folks will have a heap more, and better questions to ask, the challenge is to collate this customer survey so the information is useful to our management team.
Regards
Mike

Hi, Mike Meyers.
Good idea and good list - BUTTTTT - question 18 is redundant as the answer is obvious - which also makes 19 redundant 'cos you ain't gonna need to send out any checks. LOL.

Hi, Wimmera Farmer.
Your answers to Nos 2 and 3 could be taken to show that you may wear the trousers in your home but also just WHO really 'rools' the roost. LOL.

Your answer to 4 - "Yes we are a bit far flung unfortunatly." Come up to sunny Qld for 3 or 4 years and learn to be THANKFUL for living in your 'postage stamp' state. Yes, I know that you have travelled to Queensland on occasions and I thank you for those efforts. I have also travelled dowm to 'Patagonia' a couple of times for shows there, although I have yet to make it to Lake Goldsmith. Gimme time.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

To save a finger one typist a lot of work Wimmera Farmer answers are what fits me as well, with miner changes.

4. I don't know which chapter would want to claim me. And with this north/south rivalry I want to join the winning side. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

One other piece of the puzzle is Caterpillar Company Inc,do we need them,or is it they need us. They had a bit to say about the chapter in the UK that is no longer part of the club. The way things are now I would think they would want to have a large say in what parts are made or sold through the club.

Evan as a non official survey I think more discussion is better so I want to encourage more responses to the future of the club.

1 yes
2 not enough
3no toys for me
4no, because after been on ca chapter committee for severl years I found it to be a very thank less task and very time consuming, so I steer well clear of it now
5I think the membership is fine and could and should be increased, I am still shocked at the last AGM for chapter 18 that two people complained about the cost (then again you could have free membership and some people would then feel they should be getting paid to atttend)
6 yes
7 yes and no , Im no longer a financial member by choice so I guess that says something
8 if the club delivered what I felt I needed from it then yes I would happily pay 2 or 3 times the amount
9 I'll choose not to answer that in a public forum
10 yes I view it daily
11daily
12 answered already
13 not produce parts but should be a store front or a parts locator for people chasing parts
14 no not really, these old Cats are pretty basic
15 be a library for manuals amd drawings etc, apparently this can be done on the forum but I am not computer smart enough to find out how
16 rarely, but I havein the past
17 by the time I got the voting paper's to me and worked out who was who and so on there wasn't enough time to mail the paperwork back to the US
18 Um nah he asks the tough questions
19 done ,I'll be waiting f or the $20 Zimbabwean cheque in the mail

I reckon ypu also need to ask are people a BB member or a ACMOC member or a Chapter member, and why they arent ACMOC or Chapter member
They obviously like the idea of the BB but not the rest of it, so the rest of the it doesnt deliver for a lot of people for some reason

I hadn't expected people to fill in the survey here, but hey, it's great to see people responding, when I wrote up that list of questions I was only thinking about our 2,800 financial members, but there are a lot of great folks who use this bulletin board regularly who are currently not financial members of ACMOC, so I added a extra question to my list for you folks.

Please feel free to add extra questions that you think will make this survey relevant and useful for saving our Club.
Thanks

Anything to keep from paying bills, which is what I really need to do today...
1)-Yes
2)-3, a D2 tailseat, a TD6 IH & a TD9 IH.
3)-No. I do have one model of a D2 tailseat.. go figure. (Bought it on ebay for less than whoever bought it new paid. Hell of an investment for him...)
4)-No, there is no chapter on this side of the state within 250 miles across the Rocky Mountains.
5)-Reasonable now, but I have retired & gone on the dreaded "fixed income", so may rethink that.
6)-I suppose.
7)-sometimes I wonder.
😎-As it stands now, none of the above...as it stands now, I'm reconsidering even staying a member...
9)-That's a hard one. I've developed the feeling that the BB has become dominated by a cadre of Californians, plus a few others scattered around the US & Down Under...the club at large, maybe not so much. I have made a living for over 40 years repairing farm & industrial equipment, but it seems like my contributions to the BB are pretty much ignored, due to the fact I don't own 50 pieces of Cat equipment or else every book & manual Cat ever published...
10)- Yes. (since this is only appearing on the BB now, there will be a lot of yes answers.)
11)-Usually once a day I check in to see new posts & marvel over the latest catfight over miniscule model details or elections.
12)-NA
13)-NA, I am an ACMOC member. Since it's an OWNERS' club, I didn't join until I bought the D2.
14)-PRODUCE parts? No, that would be a worse snake pit than the hellhole producing models has become...maybe coordinate with producers of parts & help them with marketing.
15)-Yes, I have received helpful information on the D2 pony motor.
16)-don't know.
17)-I voted in the last 2, as things have developed, the last one was apparently a waste of time.
1😎-NA
19)-Not having met Mike personally, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt... 😊 He is keeping the discussion going.
19)- (again? Why are there 2 19's?) You don't have to send me money, Mike... 😊

OK, there you have it...30-45 minutes of my life I'll never get back, but hopefully it serves some purpose.

Possible questions are
(1) Do you own any antique crawlers? Yes
(2) If yes, how many? 100+
(3) If no, do you collect toys? Yes
(4) Are you active in your local ACMOC Chapter, if not, why not? Yes
(5) Do you think the annual membership fees are reasonable, too cheap, or too expensive? Anything less than 50 is ok
(6) If the Club had to go to quarterly magazines to save money, would you support that? no, cost of membership is what is funding magazine, the magazine is the only tangible return the member gets in return for his/her dues
(7) Do you think your membership is good value? Yes
(😎 If annual subscriptions had to increase to keep the Club afloat, would you continue membership if the increase was $5, $10, $15 or $20 a year, please tick one box? Anything less than 50 is ok
(9) How do you think ACMOC can better serve it's members? Provide a electronic manual data base for all gas and diesel models prior to 1970
(10) Do you use the ACMOC Bulletin Board? yes
(11) If yes, how often, daily, weekly, monthly, annually? daily

(14) If you are saving old crawlers, do you think the ACMOC Club should produce parts to help you? No, the club is setup more for marketing than mfg. The Club needs to locate people whom already produce parts and facilitate transactions by providing an on-line store front for said parts. This way the mfg does not have to deal directly with customer and ACMOC can make a small fee of 5 to 10%. This will relive the club from any major investments of capital as well as not having the staff or volunteers to manage mfg parts.
(15) Do you ever need technical support when working or operating a old machine, do you think the Club helps you? yes
(16) Do you think the Club could help you more, if so how? same answer as 9
(17) Do you vote in the ACMOC Board elections for Director every time, rarely, or never? every time

Opinions:
If the relationship between Caterpillar and ACMOC is what is hindering the speed at which projects can be launched/completed then those relationship terms need to be revisited.

I would vote for a annual fee for using the BB because less than 25% of ACMOC members actually us it. No need for ACMOC members for foot the bill for a service only 25% use, this has not been the case in the past because the retail portion of the club generated revenue to support the BB but since those sales are now slow, it would be unfair to ask the members to foot this bill.

Hi, Folks.
THE Survey:
1. Nope.
2. N/A
3. Still have 2 , sold a bunch a while back 'cos I didn't have space to keep 'em.
4. Yep, when I'm at home.
5. Could be a little higher and I would still remain a member - - -IF I could see that the club was 'ackshully' MOVING FORWARD.
6. Yep.
7. I personally don't get a lot of value OUT of it 'cos I don't own any machines, Cat or otherwise. But I can't see any point in spending 50+ years gathering knowledge and experience just to take it all to the grave with me when some of it might be of use to somebody.
8. Maybe up to $10.00 - I'm onna fixed income these days.
9. By being managed in ways that keep it afloat and DON'T cause controversy and by being more transparent to the 'rankenfile' members. Maybe finding a way to pay somebody to populate the tech. library.
10. Let me go take a look to see if I do?
11. After careful examination, apparently, several times a day.
12. See last answer.
13. If I was not a financial member, probably yes, maybe $10.00.
14. With suspicions that it could prove to be a bottomless pit, NO. But I would be in favor of the club locating suppliers and listing them on the BB in a member's section to which non-members would have pay to gain access.
15. Don't have any machines to require tech assistance for.
16. I probably help the club WAY more than it can help me - see above.
17. When I get the magazine with the vote card in time.
18. See above.
19. Yes to part, Jury is still out on 2nd part.
19. GOOD!!!!!! Now we might have some peace and quiet from down there in 'Patagonia'.

HMMMM Lotta questions there..... Noneya noneya danged business.......

Sorry couldn't resist.

I love old Cats and anything with tracks. Yea I have an old D47U. I've been so laid up with surgeries this past year nothing has been done with it. I'm hoping i'm capable of getting some work done to it and on it this year. If not I'm going to find a new home for it.

But as far as some of the questions? Yea I'd pay a little more.

There is a guy in Fargo ND who loves his old 2 cylinder JD crawlers. He runs a part time parts business and he does get NLA parts made from time to time. YOu may wish to contact him as to the where's and how's and how much. http://jdcrawlers.com is his site.

There is a guy in Fargo ND who loves his old 2 cylinder JD crawlers. He runs a part time parts business and he does get NLA parts made from time to time. YOu may wish to contact him as to the where's and how's and how much. http://jdcrawlers.com is his site.

Just a thought, question #1 asks if you own any antique crawlers. I do own a 1953 DW10, not a crawler, but still an old cat. Also own two 1959 John Deeres, a 1963 B-81SX and a 1989 R model Mack trucks. Not cats, but still old iron.
