My hour meter glass is broken and at this time not even sure if it works. Two part question. 1. Can just the glass be replaced. 2. Are any replacement hour meters like this still available?

I found a new glass and the seals for a total $3.76 at an equipment parts supplier in Tennessee.

Anyone have an idea how you remove the glass from the housing?

Push it out from inside?
Break it and clean out fragments before replacing?

Seems like both will require removing the plug in the end of the housing and sliding the mechanism out.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Hi Team,
scan below from a D6 SRB shows the type used at the time. Have reduced size of scan and it is a bit furry--may print clearer, if not I will redo it larger.
As CCJ said dismantle the unit and tap the glass out from inside with a stick or such if it is not broken.
Some had gaskets for the glass/plastic disc, and some did not--use suitable sealant--

To dismantle-to remove the counter assembly- first the drive gear housing must be removed--from memory.

Ensure that a drilling in the drive gear housing is pointing down when assembling the unit or the unit will fill with engine oil. This housing is a light press fit in the main body and can be removed by gripping the drive housing by using soft jaws in a vice and using a pulling & twisting motion, will come out fairly easily.

Cheers,
Eddie B.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
