Delco 35mt CCW starter from an IH 1486 adapted to pony clutch bell housing. Clutch shaft 6spline fitted with gear from a ford tractor hyd pump drive that has the correct pitch to match stater pinion and 6 spline center bore. Works decent think i need more amps though

looks good to me as long as it works is all that really matters and it isnt a pilot motor so its gunna be a lot easier to start
May need a tad heavier wires but I feel your onto that

Well its doing it. Compression lever to start, spin it for 10 sec then throw to run and it starts. Should mention the gear on the spline clutch shaft is 37 teeth vs the starters 10 so its geared a little. Using 2 ga. solid copper

only thing to think about if its winding over with no compression it wont build heat from compression and may make it harder to start on a cold morning
And if it miss fires it can break the pinion or so I have been told
Old Magnet will know better than me but I understand that it should be wound over under full compression for a few seconds then open up the fuel and they start instantly
If you start winding over with the throttle open they can miss fire and thats when a pinion can break

True on pinion. Will have to watch my start procedure. I must say when lever is on start it still has a decent compression cycle. Almost like two of the valve lifters are adjusted to not engage.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
