Hello Everyone, Just thought I would share with you a Holt 75 that were in the process of bringing back to life. At first glance it appeared to be in good shape, but the deeper we dug the more problems we found. It was not going to be a simple get the engine loose and go. It looks like they ran this machine till it fell apart, broke in half and left for dead. Fast forward 80 plus years later and it arrives in Hobart, Indiana to get brought back to life. First thing we saw was the rocker arms were busted and some missing, water tank was gone, belt tensioner gone, rivets shook and broke out of front end, track chains bad, top roller stand and rollers missing, gas tank missing, lubricator gone, carburetor gone, lots of cracks and welds, wrong cooling fan, just about every moving part wore out or broke. And this was just a quick glance. I will let the pictures tell some stories then I will add more and tell more of the story. Were just getting started.
Have a good evening .......Justin Click

A few more pictures of the progress. We found the water pump shaft was shot and looked like an hour glass so we made a new one. The correct cooling fan was gone, we borrowed a fan for a pattern and made a new one. The oil pan was broken in half, we put it on the heat table and gas welded it back together. The rivets are missing and broke out of the front end. We have to make special rivets that look like the original ones. We were waiting to get some tool boxes that weren't rotted out from a guy but it never happened. So we rebuilt the old ones and lightly sandblasted them to blend the new metal in. The babbitt in the front axle was wore away, so we made a fixture and poured new bearings.

WOW, What a undertaking. Its always amazing what shows up when you really get into things. And while you have a lot of work to do you have come a long ways and it looks like it will be an excellent restoration. It will be so cool when its fires and runs for the first time. Is this a family project? Thanks for bringing us all along for the ride.

This is for a friend in California, mine is tucked away in the back building. We can take a group photo when its done or do some team Holt 75 tree removing. I have a few dead trees around the house that need removing.

Yes I was at the auction last month. I like to try to buy the best tractor you can buy when looking to purchase one it will be less expensive to fix. Sometimes that's not an option if its something rare or hard to come by. speaking of fan drives were rebuilding one for a previously restored Best 30 at the moment that had bad bearings and cracked fan blades. Also rebuilding a water pump for the same machine that had a shaft like an hour glass and broken housing. We also found bad governor pins, broken springs, bad bushing in the magneto impulse and timing about 30 degrees off. Should be able to pull itself up a hill now.

Wow Justin, top quality work! I know you'd prefer to pick the machine with the least work to be done on it, but I for one appreciate when a fellow repairs broken machinery so it can turn another day rather than being junked. Just fantastic.

Some great work there. If she could talk, imagine the tales she could tell. Definitely rode hard and put away wet!

I know it will be first class when done. I had a fan shroud for one at a friends place. But I think the owner of the place scraped it. It was to go to a guy in MN. I am sure it is gone.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
