A few more pictures of the progress. We found the water pump shaft was shot and looked like an hour glass so we made a new one. The correct cooling fan was gone, we borrowed a fan for a pattern and made a new one. The oil pan was broken in half, we put it on the heat table and gas welded it back together. The rivets are missing and broke out of the front end. We have to make special rivets that look like the original ones. We were waiting to get some tool boxes that weren't rotted out from a guy but it never happened. So we rebuilt the old ones and lightly sandblasted them to blend the new metal in. The babbitt in the front axle was wore away, so we made a fixture and poured new bearings.![]()
WOW, What a undertaking. Its always amazing what shows up when you really get into things. And while you have a lot of work to do you have come a long ways and it looks like it will be an excellent restoration. It will be so cool when its fires and runs for the first time. Is this a family project? Thanks for bringing us all along for the ride.
roger, justin is known worldwide as a premier machine restorer. its probably a customers. right here in nw indiana.:usa2:
This is for a friend in California, mine is tucked away in the back building. We can take a group photo when its done or do some team Holt 75 tree removing. I have a few dead trees around the house that need removing.
Justin speaking about california were you at the auction in Westminster last month? Just wondering I met a tractor restorer from your area we were looking at the wear on fan gears on some tractors there anyway that's some project your working on! Thanks for the pictures
Yes I was at the auction last month. I like to try to buy the best tractor you can buy when looking to purchase one it will be less expensive to fix. Sometimes that's not an option if its something rare or hard to come by. speaking of fan drives were rebuilding one for a previously restored Best 30 at the moment that had bad bearings and cracked fan blades. Also rebuilding a water pump for the same machine that had a shaft like an hour glass and broken housing. We also found bad governor pins, broken springs, bad bushing in the magneto impulse and timing about 30 degrees off. Should be able to pull itself up a hill now.![]()
Wow Justin, top quality work! I know you'd prefer to pick the machine with the least work to be done on it, but I for one appreciate when a fellow repairs broken machinery so it can turn another day rather than being junked. Just fantastic.
