From a Holt 75 book #107, 1918.![]()
Hello Aurora and welcome. Looks like we’re neighbors, well sort of lol. I’ve just got done with a Holt 45 combine engine. It’s a little brother to your big 75. I’ve attached some information from a old Holt School Bulletin. I think you’ll find it useful.
To answer your questions, the firing order is 1-2-4-3. Number one is next to the fly wheel.
We like pictures!!!!
Good luck with your project.

If I am reading and understanding the two sources, one says #1 is toward radiator and the other says toward operator on the tractor. However it makes no difference to timing the engine since the 1-2-4-3 sequence can be referenced from either end without changing the firing order.......for example if you change 1 to 4 2 to 3 3 to 2 and 4 to 1
124312431243 becomes 43-1243124312 ...as you can see the sequence is the same.
Any numbering on the magneto terminals probably should be observed to avoid potential for confusion later.
I see what you mean ccjersey, that is rather confusing.

It's interesting to look at the number of different firing orders that a 3 cyl can have.:biggrin1:
Here are a couple of pictures, please excuse the mess.

lets see if this worked.![]()
Looks great! That’s not a mess, come on over if you want to see a mess lol.
