I got both tractors out on the job site earning some $$$.

He told me "I want you to build a pad in this area and walked away". It's been a good learning experiance getting out there and figuring it out. I applied everything I've learned from all you guys and it turned out pretty good. The Mighty D4 is much nicer to operate with it having a winch on the back. It use to lift the rear when coming up on the blade but now the rear stays planted ๐Ÿ‘

Well Pops, can I call myself a Cat Skinner now?

Hey Oil Slick,

I am in shock, man it looks good. When I see you tomorrow or Friday, remind me to give you a OPERATOR badge we had made up for Tulare. You are coming round there Oil Slick, I am proud of you Son. I smiled when you commented on how the Mighty D4 is more balanced. You know, some cats out fitted just right, realy click, and others are out of balance or they don't feel right. When you get on a balanced Cat, and it has a good feel to it, your bubble in your behind will let you get some good work done. Good job son. Is D4e bringing the High Horse down on his back haul?

Hey Oil Slick,

I am not sure, maybe you can help me be the judge on this one, but I think Dalton(LCM) might just open a swimming pool business. We can Check it out this week end, when he keeps digging swimming pools while trying to make a level pass. Only time will tell. Hey LCM, don't feel bad about me teasing, heck Oil slick had to pay his dues, jeez man, he started out making olympic size ones. :fish2:, LOL

LCM will soon graduate from swimming pools to RR tracks. Glad to hear he is getting some very good instructional seat time.

Looks good Mike. .backdragging, er sharpening the cutting edge not only wipes out tracks but can cover a multitude of sins as well ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜†

Gee Wizz Pops you don't even let me operate your D8. Am I getting booted out for LCM????

No High Output this year. The Big Red KW passes everything but a fueling station with the D8 on board. It's just to expensive to truck it down then turn around and take it back up for your play day.

OG. when I started the pad I was cutting about 2 1/2' wind rows to make about 5-6' of fill. I was not back dragging during this time just dozing. Once I got the pad close I started on the high side with the blade angled rolling the dirt down hill while keeping the cat level. Now I moved up a half width and back draged with the blade angled the other way. Seems like good buisness to back drag cuz I'm making progress in both directions and time is money.

My grandfather did some dozer work back in the 40's for a man down the road.
When he finished he told the man what the bill was, but he only paid half.
My grandfather asked him what the problem was with paying the full amount, and his response was
"you were backing up half the time, I am only going to pay you for when you were pushing dirt"

Needless to say that was the last time my grandfather did any work for him!

Mike,

I do pretty much the same thing. Roughing a road in I don't worry about track marks as the gravel will cover 'em. Then if I'm using the D4 to finish, I spread it going forward 'til I've got almost the width I want. Then it's time to backdrag a bit to cover the track marks and get a smooth finish. As I don't have a roller I'll use the loaded dump truck and wheel pack it for a final finish.

The way I see it, there's no wrong way to get'er dun. Ya just gotta work around what ya don't have with what ya do havet๐Ÿ˜†
