ive seen youve done alot of the direct starter conversions or you seem to know enough and documented alot of them i was wondering i you could either send me a link or complete directions with pictures. our pony motor seems to eat up more money as time goes on than the direct starter conversion could save us. pretty bad when you spend more time working on the damn thing than you get to run it.

its a 1948 d6 9u i you need any more info just ask. your time is always appriciated.

We have done 2 , First was a Late 7U D4 I managed to pickup a Starter from a Traxcavator for it and put Pre .Coms. in Worked very well . Later we did a D7D17A when the pony disintergated .The starter for that came from an English 22A D8 ,which had the Tapered gear , Did same thing with Pre.Coms. That is still working perfect to this Day. I have seen 'External' Engines used as starters . One was a Briggs and Stratton permantly mounted and the other an Old Collector had made up a Honda motor and Frame he uses to start pony motors .. just moves it from one Tractor to another, Beats pulling that Rope when you get older !! Starter conversion stuff is at this site:

Unfortunately it's a pretty tough job on the D6 that old that doesn't have the factory starter hole.

Probably the next most common rig is to mount a pulley on a starter driving the pony flywheel. Your on your own for that approach.

well maybe getting the starter rebuilt is a better idea maybe the pony motor as well? i guess as long as the magneto keeps going and we can get the starter to stop melting the solder inside we might be good.
