Going through some old parts today and found a water pump seal part number 4F-4769M stamped into it. I'm sure it fits the d2 water pump but can't find that part number in my 5U parts book.it is a better quality seal than the up dated seal that cat supply currently.does this number up date or is it for another model eg 5j etc.
Will try to add a picture

Hi Mike hows things
Notice the larger OD of the sealing face of the ceramic washer.40 or so mm. Can't seem to get this exact type anymore. The modern type look like this.

Hi Lachlan, All good down here, flat out as usual.

Yes, my D2 5U waterpump originally had the wider ceramic face too and the newer seals have the narrow running face, in theory the narrow face should run tighter against the impeller for a better seal?

My waterpump has given me fits, it had a slow drip when I dragged the Cat home from north Qld so I fitted a new seal and had the running face lightly dressed in a lathe but I didn't fit the brass seal body correctly deforming it slightly, so it still dripped, so I pulled the pump off again and fitted a new seal, that dripped too, so I pulled the pump again and discovered the pump shaft had a slight bend in it so I managed to find a old pump with a good straight shaft and have only just got it back together in the past week, hopefully today I'll kick that D2 in the guts and give her a run as I've been trying to sort out a lack of pressure issue with the #41 hydraulic pump I fitted to the tractor.
Regards
Mike
