hi, recently purchased a 1951 Cat D2 crawler, the plan is to get it running good then a restore to have it more presentable and display, it is mostly complete and now runs decent, I replaced the crank seal in the pup motor also fixed many oil and coolant leaks.

the issue I am now working on is the electrical charging, does anyone have a diagram as to how the wires are connected for the charging system and how to test the generator and regulator box, many of the wires the insulation is brittle and falling off, also on the side of battery box there is a amp meter and switch, what does this switch do? all but 2 wires are not connected

any help would be appreciated

Laurence

thanks, I will take a look in the morning, following up on the machine the crawler is a model d5 serial 5U7074, the front I call the hoop where the blade attaches is TRACKSON 1W2 #37C5, the front has been modified to mount a Leon blade, its not set up right as it digs in badly and the crawler lifts on the front, the angle needs to be tilted forward to push rather than dig

My goal is to find a original blade, looking on line had no success finding this setup, where can I find more info on this TRACKSON setup, it does appear original, it had some sort of tilt because it has a spring setup in the middle but missing parts

thanks in advance

My local scrap yard had 2 blades a few weeks ago - if I had photo could check. Bob

Pete, the blade defiantly digs in which causes the front of the machine to lift, assumed the blade attack angle and the arm above the track center, have no idea the history, it now starts good, runs great and purrs, just not able to push

it has quite a high lift, way more than I see on dozers

I could likely do a short video this weekend, what would you like to see other than it running, lifting and pushing dirt
That's a new one on me. I don't think I've ever seen or heard of a Trackson L2 or LW2.
Pete.
my son ken had 1 18 years ago. it was marketed as a manure loader and most likely rusted away very fast. the bucket was trip dumped. some 1 on here may still have photos of it. it was of course posted on the acme board. i'll try 2 see if i can post some.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
