Need some help with these parts.....

First is some leather covers I got with the Cat Ten. I have no idea where they are used.

Second.....this may be the answer to the first question .....there is covers/shields for these brake springs.
What are they made from ?

Next is a question about the fuel tank. After reading I found there was a lot of trouble with heating the fuel and vapor lock. The solution was a retro fit pair of vents and a shield shield. I have two styles fuel tank. The one on the Ten has no provision for a vent and the other has two holes in the top for, I assume, the vents. Should I change to the vented tank and what type of vent is it that was used. Where would I get them ?

Thanks........Bill

Cysco, the first 3 questions you answered yourself, the 4 ones are from the breaks springs and as you said they are from leather, the 5th on the picture is a leather boot from between the governor rod to the governor housing on the engine (its called bearing by cat) to prevent dust dirt going in the engine.
the vents normaly stick out around 9/16" of the fuel tank thats why there are round holes drilled in the hood, and no water can come in the tank when it rains , but yours look different maybe you can take a close up picture.

Caterpillar made 2 different styles of vented tanks for the 10. The most common type had a vent in the center of the top of the tank. It has a cover over it with a very small hole in it. THe hood you show takes this tank. The other style tank has 2 vents in it. It was designed for hill work. Inside these vents there are floats to stop gas from spewing out when you go up or down hills. This tank takes a hood with 2 holes in it. I can take some pictures later if necessary. This is why the cap for the 10 has no vent in it. Sometimes you see a hole drilled in the cap when the vent has failed. - Wally
