Hello Guys,

This is an old D8 that my dad and uncle bought about 20 years. Dad used it to grub trees and build a stock tank on his place. Now it only gets started every 3-4 years to dig a trash pit. I inherited half of the machine about 15 years ago when I bought my uncles 40 acre place but have never any operated it. I have an old J.D. backhoe that does all my chores so I've never had it on my place.

My wife recorded this info from a tag on the machine and sent it to me. I wanted to know if someone could give me an idea of the year model from the picture or tag info.

Serial 3A-101550
MJK-412180C-311

Thanks
Tommy

3A is not a D8 serial number but 13A is but there is too many figures there as not that many were made.Look on the left rear side of the block below the head and there should be a plate there with the SN on it or on the left rear of the housing above the drawbar near the top and see if you can find the number there and if the plate is missing either place the factory always stamped it in the casting so you may have to scrape a little paint off to see it between where a couple rivets were driven in to hold the plate. It looks like it could be an old 2U or the 13A serial number.I can,t see it too well but the hood on tractors up and including the 13A has a straight hood all the way back to the dash where the 14A and up tapers back at the dash which is narrower.

Even with the curved exhaust I think I'd still put a 5 gallon bucket over the stack to keep the rain out.

Those are Bosch magneto model numbers for the 2U & 13A tractors.

1946 - 1953

Tommy - The S/N tag is a small brass tag located in the positions that SJ advised. Here is the diagram showing the locations, with the arrows pointing to the two places, on the rear housing, and on the left rear of the engine block. The tractor appears to be a late 1940's or early 1950's, 2U series D8.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
