Hello everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster. Recently acquired a 1974 140 motor grader 14u476. Looking forward to getting it back into grading shape. It's in snow plowing shape now. Needs some love yet. 6 speed power shift, 3306 150hp turbo, falls 12' wing and 9' push blade. I'm looking forward to the challenge!

Hi, Harneymaki.
With what you have told us you have, I wouldn't ask any of these drooling freaks for any advice. They'll all be so jealous they would tell you that day is night just to make your life difficult out of pure jealousy. LOL.

Great stuff. Fire away with any questions. We have a good few people here with a HEAP of answers at their fingertips.

Enjoy your project. THAT'S an ORDER. LOL.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Just squeaked by....the 3306 didn't come in until 14U0431 and production of that model ended 14U0480. Still has the old mechanical controls though.

Hi, Old Magnet.
Did the 14U 140s have full mechanical controls like the Cat 12s prior to the 12F or the hydraulic-boosted ones like some of the various series of 14E graders?

A kew-ree-yuss mind would like to know. Thank you.

Hi Deas,
The 140 14U powershift and 11R Direct Drive both have the old type standard mechanical controls (no hydraulic assist). They do have power assisted brakes and steering.

A hearty Minnesota hello to you Harneymaki. Some how I sense a bit of finn in your handle. We have a very active ACMOC chapter here in MN. Hopefully you will be able to make it to some of the club doings. You would be most welcome and also find a wealth of knowledge here in your own back yard. Not me necessarily but the other guys. Cool that you have a grader set up for snow plowing. One of my favorite machines.

There is some Finn in my handle for sure. One of those things that stuck from 20 years ago! $48,921.60 brand new with tax. It came with the original bill of sale which is pretty neat. 14' moldboard, hydraulic side shift and blade tilt. Almost the last rigid frame, mechanically controlled 140 that was made. It's an end of an era machine I guess.

I'll try. Not sure if I can do it off my phone. Be awhile until I'm at my computer.
