I am looking at running waste veggie oil. Has anyone done this ? Or does anyone have helpful information that they might share? Thank you. I am looking for a cheaper fuel source. I have a D2 5U and D4 7U as well as a D6 9U that I would like to use it with. Thank you , Paul.http://www.acmoc.org/bb/images/icons/confused.gif

I have run waste oil in Rd7's for years- ran it through a reclaimer that heated & filtered out impurities -but when fuel gets high priced- waste oil gets scarce as it is scarfed up for oil burning stoves- I have run as high as 90 % waste oil - but it takes more / hr than #2- course w/ the new diesel fuel it takes more also- I ran a batch of 85/140 @ bout 20% w waste oil & diesel mix[50/50] but on cold morning it took a few round on the offset disc in low gear to get things warmed up enough to go any faster😆don't know if more modern / high speed engs will digest this diet?- friend uses spent cooking oil in ford pickup- & I used some waste blend in my lawn mower [ 4cyl perkins] but these are both prechamber engines- have been told dat it's a bad deal in direct injection ones 😞

The old generation diesel engine
There is no problem to work with such fuel type
Make sure the filter before refueling

Ensure the quality filters (original)

Modern diesel engine (common rail) caused heavy damage

A very interesting discussion. Important to note that when diesel fuel gets expensive, so does the vegetable waste. I'm wondering if with so many people making their own fuel these days if there are any sources of waste left. GWH

Considering that the very first Cat Diesels were proclaimed to run on the lowest grade of fuels, and when Cat engineers tore down one of the early motors to assess wear, they found a fist-sized ball of paraffin in the cylinders. The user had been running it on asphalt.

Dont bother using it in a tractor, although most old diesels will run on veg oil, either waste or new oil, you will not save any cash. Replacing taxed road fuel with veg oil is better if you can find a reliable supply of good oil, we have used it in some pickup trucks and it gave us 10% less economy and they smelled like a fast food restaurant.
However, veg oil can soften seals and pipes in some engines, even a 10% bio blend causes problems in classic cars and any mechanical problems can cost more than you save.
We have now worn the old pickups out, the new ones are common rail and you cannot use veg oil in them

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
