I recently saw several photos of an early D2 3J that appeared to be equipped for a hand crank, with the crank pulley “ears” and crank handle bushing in the bottom of the radiator. Said tractor also had rope start pony motor.

A quick look at the D2 3J parts book here on the ACMOC site, shows two hand crank handles for a 3J. One appears to be captivated like a Twenty Two and the other appears to be removable (I presume after starting)

At any rate, the possibility of hand starting a D2 surprised me and while I am very content with my electric start pony…..I am curious if anyone here has one, or has done it.

Thanks,
Breadler

It's not a starting handle, it is for turning the engine over to spread the oil film on the internal engine components prior to starting, and for turning the engine for service.

I have similar on the RD4 parked outside. I will have to remember to include the handle when CrawlerAddict gathers it for his cache of RD's. JM

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
