Someone is hacking my account trying to sell starting engine.
Hi, RodneyOsweiler.
First thing to do is go to your account here on ACMOC and change your log-in password. Make it at least 8 characters long and containing letters, numbers AND other characters. Characters that WON'T work are ? / \ * that I know of but many others will. And DON'T commit it to memory - WRITE IT DOWN and store it inna safe place.
Wunna the tricks that I use is to substitute numbers for letters that look close to the shape of the numbers.
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
I deleted that post - thank you for alerting us. Also, follow Deas' advice and change your password asap.
May i ask Kurt , Has anyone looked into how Rodneys profile got hacked ? Seems to me A forum member could have been ripped off , if not for Rodney Spotting the scam post. What happens if next time , the scammer picks a non active member that is not able to flag the scam post ?
We have no way of determining if an account has been "hacked", from our end, it is just another logon. I do highly recommend that everyone use complex passwords even though they are a pain and also be very suspicious if anyone from "ACMOC" asks for PW or account information. I don't believe that there is an inherent flaw in the security system as we are not seeing a significant change in this kind of activity.
I'm sure everyone is already aware of this, but if anyone ever responds to something for sale, and says that he knows someone else who has it for sale, and to contact them, it is almost certainly a scam. The fraudulent hacking of someone's account here in this case didn't do that. However, this "friend of a friend" kind of thing is common in many website classified sections, and is easy to spot.
I will add my own .02, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't! Some buyers openly point out their desperation to find a unobtainium part/machine/whatever...lo and behold, some stranger appears from nowhere and just happened to have several his granny abandoned or some wild story...just send $$$ quick, because they are on their way out of town or they work on some nuclear submarine and top secret mission...I would tend to trust a member or frequent user of this site than some unknown person.
If someone does have anything to offer, they should provide the shipping point and contact information, so someone might possibly go in person to look first. I see too many posts offering a part "with shipping included". I call BULL on many of those, when the seller doesn't know where the part might go. Make any sense?
Be cautious in your dealings. Period.
I'd add another warning sign of a probable thief - scammer . Beware of members with 0 posts . That's been tried on me several times and its easy to spot . Just do a click on their username and their post count will be shown .
Never use the same password for multiple sites! Create strong, unique passwords for each site!
