Well, you boys asked for it. Here is the custom-built, circa 1955, logging arch behind the family D2. I lifted the logs off the ground with a come-along (stressed to the max, I gotta get the winch installed) but once on line, it worked great. I hauled two large but useless logs to the side of a ravine on the ranch and then pushed then over the edge with the blade... many more to deal with!

Looks like real fun to me, thanks for the photo's, I bet the D2 enjoyed getting a few cobwebs blown out of her too.

That Arch looks way better hooked up than it does sitting as a rusty pile waiting to be scrapped!
Nice save!

Looks great to me Gregness! I always enjoy yarding wood. There's a huge Hyster tracked arch not to far from here that would be neat, but I don't think I've got a big enough tractor to even move it let alone yard with it.

Bruce, that must be one BIG arch if you don't think your D7 is up to the task. There are of course lots of those big ones on tracks over here on the wet side. Mostly just yard art these days. I can't imagine the trees being big enough in your part of the state to need a monster arch!

Yep, It was a great day. I also cleared a little land, hauled off the remains of a stump burn pile, and graded out that area. I am still very bad at grading. More practice is my only hope.

Grading with a D2 is tough even if you are proficient, short track length and a light machine compared to the weight of a loaded blade.

Nice rig.

Gregness,
That is way to cool. I wish I had a set up like that here. If you need an employee I'll pack my bags and see you soon lol jk. That mountain and tree scenery is just as beautiful as the machine. Reminds me of our vacation to Cotopaxi Colorado last year. Told the old lady I was going to find a dozer or logging job and we would just make our vacation permanent but she didn't think that would go over to well with our folks lol.

I might be able to pull it but only with a dead poplar hooked to it. There were some big sticks here at one time, the big arch belonged to a local legend of sorts. His name was Curly, and was a logger almost all his life. He ran mostly D7's and a few 8's. I'm told Curly would take a 3T just about anywhere. There is also a good sized cool tracked wagon thing (Athey maybe?) down in the canyon at his place. Curly passed away a couple years ago, his son in law is in charge of the estate and has got stuff priced way high. To bad, there's some interesting stuff there.

Have fun with your arch.

BP.

Don't worry, when the little D2 get's a play mate D6 or 7 you will soon become a dab hand with the blade Gregness, even experts say the D2 are really tough to create a smooth finish with.
