Since the other CL ad for a CAT grader was a scam, I'm turning my attention to this one: https://buffalo.craigslist.org/hvo/d/grader/6598722788.html

Is that a 112? I've asked the seller for the serial number. Why someone would post an ad and not include the serial number is beyond me.

One thing with that grader is, I see a lot of HYD control levers, but I also see a lot of drive shafts... Were HYD motors used to actuate gearboxes & drive shafts as opposed to HYD cylinders way back when?

Which picture are you seeing all these hydraulic levers in? I'm no expert : ) but I'm only seeing dog clutch levers in two pictures of the inside of the cab; images 9 and 12 - like about 6 or so of them adjacent to the steering wheel. I do seem some power steering hoses but that's about it.

I guess that's what they are, never used anything like that...

I think you are correct in guessing a 112 from the early 1960's .....possibly as early as 1959 (112E produced from 1959-1961)
I see a 4 cylinder D330 looking engine and a knuckle buster type control. Not a 212 because CAT stopped production of the smallest grader in 1957 here in the USA.

In the larger grader, I think the 12E (99E series here in the USA) was the last dog clutch type control produced from 1959 through 1965. Maybe the 112F produced 1960 through 68 was still a manual control?????

Anyway it looks like it has had a very nice paint job. Whether the grader underneath is tight or worn out should be easy to determine by inspection in person. With all knuckle buster control machines a good test is to try to lift the front wheels off the ground by pressing the blade down.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Hydraulic blade slide was standard clear back to 1950. Very complete but pricy for a hobby machine. Gear boxes could be completely worn out. Hours??

Ok, so the seller got back to me and sent me some more pictures.

Seller says he's willing to work with the price.

Can anyone tell me what year this is? It's a 112E? I hear these are difficult to find parts for?

I would use it for building/maintaining driveways on my 60+ acres of land. Nothing too heavy.

I should NOT be buying another toy such as this...

112E, 1964, 85hp, 21,200 lbs.

Missing the Scarifier,

If it were me, I would look around for an #12 8T or such, close to the same weight, but more power and should be half the price, for that price I'd be looking for a real nice late model 212.

There is NO hyd. hoses on that grader. That is CATs power steering on the front of the grader. Front tires are on backwards. Turn the outer single levers, on the control box,so they lean back towards the operator, as those are the lift levers for the ends of the blade and those are the two levers that you use the most. With them back, you don't have to reach so far forward. That's a nice looking grader. Don't go with a 212. catskinner
