i am going to be looking at a grader, not shure which it is, its off in the distance and talked to the gentleman, he said he purchased it for $2000 running but they pull started it, that makes me think it has a pony which i believe would make it a 112 right? anyways he said it has a cracked block but still ran good, no internal fluids mixing just leaks coolant. it ran good until a guy that borrowed it serviced it and since then it has not ran, he did change fuel filters so my assumption is that there is air in the injection pump/lines/injectors. He said its not worth what he payed for it due to the motors condition, i am just wanting to know what you guys think about the price and anything else, its just a mile or so from my house so if he is home tonight i am going to stop by and get a serial and some pictures, if not i will this weekend.

He also has a JD510 that the same guy borrowed at the same time, also servising it and when he got it back it runs verry rough and white smokes... so there is air in the lines. i am going to work on it this weekend and hopefully make a deal with him

12 has D6 engine, 112 has D4 engine, and the little 212 has the D2 engine. All can have ponies based on the year.

PS. If I was that guy I would not lend the other gentleman any more equipment.

Hi, Lil Cat Mec.
Mostly on left side front of frame just ahead of the scarifier mount and on right side of engine block toward the rear - flywheel - end of the donk.

If you get it and decide to get all enthusiastic and want to 'tighten it up a bit', there is a list of adjustments and how to perform them in the tech. library on this site. DON'T laugh! They are adjustable and I have seen blokes who had operated the same Cat 12 for NINE years and still didn't know there was any adjustment, let alone how many adjustments or how to do them.

CAUTION!!!!!!!!! Operator ASLEEP!!!!!!!!!!!

Thinking that in Washington, it may or may not have had a snow plow side wing on it. I didn't see the lift attachment in the pictures so it may not have. In this country 95% of the older Cat 12s had plows and nearly all of them have a cracked or usually broken main frame on the left side while sitting in the seat. They broke about a foot in front of the cab from hitting hard objects with the wing while plowing snow in road gear. Some are found repaired correctly while many are twisted up. Always worth looking for on the old machines. The old girl looks like a saver in the pictures.

Deas, i will be tightning it up, ill get the serial number here shortly. I don't recall it having a wing on it, how hard would it be to fabricate? I can investigate more on the frame, it doesnt concern me, i can either fish plate it and or v it and weld it along with a plate on the inside.

what serial variation does this appear to be "if you can tell form the pictures" also approx year? im not too up on my graders

Our City of Moose Lake still uses a Cat 12 equipped with V plow and wing to clear the city streets. I went over to the city shop at noon for some pictures to post but the 12 is all tucked away in the back corner of the shop with the plow and wing removed for the summer. The V plow in front raises from redirecting the scarifier shaft to the front lift. I have seen some that use the tilt shaft for the front wheels. My 11 has no front wheel tilt at all being ordered as a snow patrol. Guess they figure you don't need tilt if pushing a V plow. The wing has brackets and a bar off the back of the machine holds the wing out. It has a control shaft operated winch in front of the cab and lifts via a arraignment of pulleys and cable. I believe the 12 parts manual will show all the pieces under the attachment section in the back of the book.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
