There may be other opinions but I let my ponies run out of fuel after the main starts by shutting off the fuel and letting the pony run out of fuel and die. That way there is no chance for fuel to leak into the pony crankcase and cause you more problems. Been doing it that way for as long as I remember. Smart move to put an inline strainer in the fuel line too.
PS: I also add Sta-Bil to the gas to prevent deterioration when used infrequently.
Drain it! Leave everything dry and it will fire right up come spring. Let’s say your tank shut off valve has a slow leak. Come spring you’ll be rebuilding your carb again.

A friend of mine emailed me to point out that he found that using non ethanol fuel solved his fuel problems and I agree as I have used regular gasoline (non ethanol) gas for years in the ponies on the D4 and 112. In fact I have not touched the pony carbs on either the D4 or the 112 for at least 15 years. For good measure I also add some Lead substitute to the fuel. Non ethanol fuel, inline strainer, run carb out of fuel after each start, add StaBil and PB substitute for good measure and your fuel problems will go away.
If you have an airport fairly close, buy some 100 octane low lead aviation gas. It comes with stabilizer in it. No more carb issues etc. I even use it in all my chain saws, weed eaters and blowers. I haven't had any issues with them either. They are all zippy with the extra octane.
I know its been said to leave the tank dry, but I fill mine to the top to prevent moisture build up and rust.
I changed the petcock/valve so I know it doesn't leak.
