My son and I have built a perkins 236 out of bits and peice parts .
Lit a fire in it Sat. could not clear up thick white smoke and a slight miss pulled injectors great spray pattern,pump timming is set 2deg advance of static What have I missed/over looked? Ran 20min, water temp.160deg oil pressure steady at 55psi.CAV. DPA fuel pump Any ideas?๐Ÿ˜•

Your pump timing is too far retarded by those symptoms.Try to get it 23deg before tdc and see what happens.Are your timing marks right?

Also temporarily disconnect the fuel line to that thermostart to be sure it is not leaking fuel into the intake manifold.
Any possibility of oil coming in through the turbo?

Well the prize goes to Enginenut My son(and I๐Ÿ˜ฎ ) somehow tyed the return fuel line into thermostart circut above the valve unit ๐Ÿ˜Ž It the simple things๐Ÿ˜›

Greyhead, You may want to check that thermostart for proper sealing.I would have thought it would hold low pressure fuel if no electrical was fed to the unit but maybe deadheaded return fuel is out of it's ability.
I saw the replacement thermostart units available very reasonable at Yesterdays Tractors listed for Massey-Ferguson with Perkins.
