Has anyone fitted a new gear reduction starter to a direct electric start conversion? I am looking to add a starter to go with my pony on the 8U and maybe a 5U if I have room. They are so much lighter than the older ones that are 100 lbs, and I think they spin faster as well. Just wondering if anyone had a size or good part number for the new style, or just stick with the old tried and true ones.

No one is producing the helical drive gear that would work on those gear reduction starters.

Thanks for your information. Now that almost seems like another project, I need another one.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
